Sunday, 2/17/2013 there will be a small group of us up at the club house around 1pm to move the APRS digipeater/internet gateway station from my QTH to the tower at the clubhouse. Sorry for the short notice but I wanted to be sure we were moving forward as planned before I sent the invite to everyone. C'mon on out and join us.

We didn't get done what we would have liked but we did get a good idea of what's needed. I had underestimated the height of the tower and the distance of the tower to the building. We also found that the tower stand off needs to be one for a tapered tower. The APRS digi is up at the shack and running on the VHF antenna for the time being. For those who would like to use the regular VHF radio for the net, just turn off the Radio Shack HTX-212 and leave everything else running and remove the coax. Just put it back and turn the 212 back on when finished. I would like to see some hard line or LMR400 used instead of RG8 due to the amount of loss over the long distance from near top of tower(not to interfere with Dial a bus) to the shack. We shall see....

I have 250' of hard line that I am willing to donate to the cause. We need to do a tower evaluation which allows maximum usage of the tower. Let's not forget the tower belongs to Dial-A -Bus and permission needs to granted before attaching to many antennas to it. A plan is being formulated to eventually have ownership of the tower. This will take a little time so be patient.

Just left APRS.FI and enjoyed following everyone around. Keep up the good work. Hope to have one up soon, with a little help I hope.

Its 0745 Sat 23 Feb and I am up at the club tweaking some setting on the APRS computer. I came in last night before work and found the computer had installed some Windows updates and rebooted and UI-View32 was not running and functioning as an I-Gate. AE4EV recommended that I add the software to the start-up folder so if for some reason the power flickers or whatever and the CPU reboots, UIView32 will as well. I also turned off the auto update from Windows and added a schedule edit command within the APRS software to connect to the I-Gate server one minute after start-up. In the possible event that our WIFI signal is lost for whatever reason I added a command that will disconnect from the I-gate server at 2358 and reconnect at 2359 every evening. I feel that this will give us the most worry free and reliable station possible at this time.
